The Utah Genealogical Association (UGA) is an enthusiastic community of researchers who want to improve their skills and more effectively utilize genealogical resources within Utah. UGA provides genealogical information, sources and education through personal instruction and published media on state and national family history topics, while promoting high standards and ethical practices.
UGA was formally organized September 25, 1971, and chartered December 1, 1971, by the State of Utah as a nonprofit educational organization. Our Past Chapter Activities
On December 4th Carrie Keele of Not Your Mother's Genealogy gave a presentation on "Online Photo Editing:" On October 16th UGA President Janet Horvorka spoke to us about Where to Start When Your Genealogy is "All Done". September 18th, Devin Ashby, FamilySearch Indexing Community Advocate presented FamilySearch Indexing: Basics and Beyond. Indexes created at your fingertips! Be part of an international initiative to index the world’s largest collection of genealogical records. This class will give you indexing background and basics to help you understand where to begin, how to help, and what we can achieve. July 22nd, there was a walking tour at the Bountiful Cemetary. The tour included the stories of some of the early settlers in the area being told. It was a wonderful event for those of us that participated. On May 15th we Lynn Andersen gave a great presentation: In Search of Eliza: How DNA, Family Finder and Other Technologies Found Her Parents. On Tuesday April 3rd, we had a Special Evening with Daniel Rona, he gave the presentation: "Walking in the Footsteps of Time." It was a wonderful evening and presentation by Mr. Rona. On January 17th Loni Gardner did a presentation on mind mapping and how it can be used in genealogy. It was enjoyed by all who attended. 2011. In November, Wilma Adkins did a wonderful job of explaining what the FamilySearch Wiki is and how it can be used. Bud Wood, gave an excellent overview of the Content, Benefits and Features of the UGA Website. In October, Barry Ewell gave an excellent presentation. Those that attended our September meeting heard Tim Bingaman speak on Decendancy Research. In August, The Association held it's Summer Conference at the Larry H. Miller Campus of Salt Lake Community College. Those of us that were able to attend were treated to great presentations on a wide variety of subjects. In July, there was a walking tour at the Bountiful Cemetary. The tour included the stories of some of the early settlers in the area being told. It was a wonderful event for those of us that participated. In June, Jenny Hansen spoke to us on Beginning Scandinavian Research. And, In May, well known Genealogist and presenter Devin Ashby presented "The Google Genealogist". Those who attended the May meeting heard about several Google products that can be taken advantage of by Genealogists to assist them in their genealogical activities and efforts.
