ABOUT ME

Introduction

Shanna Besendorfer grew up in Orem, Utah, where her love for genealogy began at a young age. Each Memorial Day, she accompanied her father to visit family graves, listening to stories of their ancestors along the way. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for family history.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Family History from Brigham Young University and currently works as a project mentor at BYU’s Center for Family History and Genealogy. Shanna has been conducting genealogical client work since 2021 and is actively pursuing her professional accreditation in the England research area.

In addition to her work with BYU, Shanna serves her community and the broader historical field in several capacities. She is a member of the Mt. Pleasant Utah Pioneer Historical Association Board and is the director of Mt. Pleasant’s Relic Home Museum. She also serves as the membership chairman for the Seeley Genealogical Society, helping connect descendants and support ongoing research efforts.

Shanna is continually expanding her expertise and is currently enrolled in the Investigative Genetic Genealogy program through Ramapo College. Her passion for learning and dedication to the field make her a committed advocate for high‑quality genealogical research.

When she’s not working on research or teaching, Shanna enjoys long walks through any cemetery—with her ever‑indulgent husband happily by her side—as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren.
