Fifty-five years ago Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. It almost wasn't shared, not being part of the original script prepared for his speech to be given during the March on Washington for civil rights. Taylor Branch (winner of the Pulitzer Prize for the first volume of his history of the American Civil Rights Movement: Parting The Waters) tells us that the great contralto Mahalia Jackson urged Dr. King to “Tell ‘em about the dream, Martin,” and he did so in an improvised section of that speech.

An estimated 250,000 people from all over the country attended that event, in addition to the audience reached by live coverage by the three major television outlets. Dr. King’s “Dream” continues to inspire many today. Please join us in commemorating the life and legacy of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., champion of equality, hope, and healing for America.

Reverend Paul Neal Nelson, Assistant Pastor of New Bethany Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., will invoke Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as he interprets King’s I Have a Dream speech.

Lunch will be served. Tickets are included with Academy registration; guest tickets are available for an additional fee.

SLIG Shuttle to the Family History Library (FHL)

Tuesday through Thursday 4:15 - 6:15pm and 7:15 - 9:15pm
Friday 12:00 - 2:00pm and 7:15 - 9:15pm

Departs in front of the Hilton; drops and picks up in front of the Family History Library.

We realize that researching at the Family History Library is a key part of your SLIG experience. The FHL is a short 3-block walk, but then Salt Lake City blocks are not very short (each one equals 1/8 mile). Therefore, SLIG runs shuttles daily, Tuesday through Friday, after classes, until the FHL closes at 9:00 pm.

Professionals and budding professionals often find it difficult to keep things balanced, produce output on time, hold commitments in check, and still have fun along the way. Decisions about education, credentialing, writing and publishing, employment, and speaking abound. And that brings us to the delicate balancing act with time. How does one manage all the demands and multiple directions, much less work on their own research or enjoy a personal life along the way?

To address this topic we have invited D. Joshua Taylor, one of the industry's top professionals, to address us. Fingers in multiple pies? Check. Impact in a wide variety of areas from publications to television? Check.

Join us to wrap up our first annual Academy for Professionals and learn from Josh about how to "balance it all."
